Ingredients

  • 2 cup Rice
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin/Jeera
  • 1 no. Black Cardamom
  • 2 no. Star Anise
  • 1 no. Bay Leaf
  • 2 no. Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 no. Mace/Javitri
  • 1 no. Sliced Onion
  • 1 no. Chopped Tomato
  • 1 no. Chopped Carrot
  • ½ cup Fried Cottage Cheese/Paneer
  • Water As Needed

Instructions

  • Take 2 cups of rice, rinse them properly and soak them for around 15 minutes
  • In a deep dish, add 2 tablespoon of oil
  • Add all the dry masala to the deep dish
  • Mix everything until dry masala splutter
  • Now add onion, tomato, carrot and paneer/cottage cheese
  • Now add 1 sliced onion
  • Now add 2 tsp/ to taste salt
  • Mix again and then add rinsed rice to it
  • Give everything a good stir
  • Add water whose level should be 1/2 inch above the rice
  • Mix again, once the water starts to boil, lower the flame and cover and cook for 5-7 minutes
  • Remove the cover and tasty pulao is ready to be served
  • This tastes amazing with Indian gravies like Dal Makhni, Paneer Butter Masala, Rajma etc.

Step-by-Step Photo Instructions to make Simple Pulav :

1) Take 2 cups of rice, rinse them properly and soak them for around 15 minutes

2) In a deep dish, add 2 tablespoon of oil

3) Add 1 tsp of cumin/ jeera

4) 1 Black Cardamom

5) 1 Bay Leaf

6) 2 Cinnamon Sticks

7) 2 Mace

8) 2 Star Anise

9) Mix everything until dry masala splutter

10) Now add 1 sliced onion

11) 1 chopped tomato

12) 1 chopped carrot

13) 1/2 cup fried cottage cheese/paneer

14) Mix everything together for 2-3 minutes on medium flame

15) Now add 2 tsp/ to taste salt

16) Mix again and then add rinsed rice to it

17) Give everything a good stir

18) Add water whose level should be 1/2 inch above the rice

19) Mix again, once water starts to boil, lower the flame and cover and cook for 5-7 minutes

20) Remove the cover and tasty pulao is ready to be served

21) This tastes amazing with Indian gravies like Dal Makhni, Paneer Butter Masala, Rajma etc.

Notes:

  • You can add more vegetables as per your choice to make it more nutritious
  • If you don’t want to cook it in the dish then pressure cook it for 2 whistles
  • This pulav tastes great when you make it with basmati rice
